Going Reusable Part 2

Going Reusable Part 2

For those of you that have been following you’ll know I’m taking small steps to becoming more environmentally friendly and going reusable in the products I use regularly. I recently converted to cloth sanitary pads (you can read about them here) and was so impressed I’ve now added reusable cloth make up wipes to my collection.

I found out about them when I was doing my sanitary pad research and after having a good look around I opted for these wipes from Cheeky Wipes.

I chose these ones as they are made from gorgeously soft minky fabric on one side and bamboo (which is naturally antibacterial) on the other. I personally also loved this design- although they have 4 to choose from if you’re not so much into the grey bird design I got. I opted for the full kit including 10 wipes, the storage box and organic coconut oil which only came to £20.95 + p&p (which starts at £2.95). I didn’t think that was too bad at all when you think how much I’ll save on disposable wipes!

These wipes have been so popular for Cheeky Wipes that they were sold out so I pre-ordered them a few weeks ago and they arrived on Monday. I have to say I was expecting cotton pad sized wipes and was really pleasantly surprised when I found out they were much bigger than I expected…

How they work

I was very excited to try these and I was originally going to wait to post about them but I was so delighted the first time I used them I couldn’t wait! The set comes with a really clear guide on how to use the wipes and coconut oil but I’ll break it down for you here:

  • Massage the coconut oil on to your face to remove make up. It is super gentle and can be used to remove mascara- which I found melted away much easier than scrubbing with a disposable wipe
  • Run the cloth wipe under warm water and wipe around face to remove make up and oil
  • Rinse the cloth wipe in cool water and wipe around face again to refresh skin and leave it clean, moisturised and I found it looked lovely and bright. The photo below is just after using them, no make up or filter, just a bit of a spotlight!
  • Pop used wipes into the storage container and wash them in your next clothes wash. With 10 included in the pack it means I’ll never be without if I’m a bit behind on washing (always!)

I’m thoroughly enjoying my journey into reusable products like these wipes and the sanitary pads I got and have to say I was skeptical at first. That little voice in my brain questioning ‘can they really be any good if most people are still using disposable?’ The answer is a resounding yes- they are much better! I’ve found they far exceed disposables not only in the eco-friendly category but in the quality category too. The softness of both these and the sanitary pads is a little bit of luxury in mundane everyday stuff and they both tick all the boxes in getting the job done. A big thumbs up from me Cheeky Wipes!

If you want to give them a go you can check out the website here. Please note they are still only available for pre-order (as of 21 June 2018) but in my opinion totally worth the wait! Let me know how you get on and don’t forget to subscribe to the blog to keep following my reusable product journey!

Woah! This product is something I would really support. It’s unique and somehow very useful in our everyday activities, especally for women. Hope something similar would be available in the market here in the Philippines.

Great post. I haven’t heard of these before but I love coconut oil as a cleanser and I use a cloth which is great too as an alternative to facial wipes

I’m really getting into reusable products lately – I recently got a menstrual cup and I love it. These wipes are definitely something I’d use.

This is really interesting! I wonder how great they are for people with problematic skin… I have to be very careful what I put on, and how I take off my makeup.

Thanks so much for this post! I’ve been trying to reduce my waste as much as possible and makeup wipes are a big problem for me at the moment. I definitely want to start trying these!
